An intensivist is a board-certified physician who is additionally certified in the subspecialty of critical care medicine. Kadlec Medical Associates’ Intensivist service is based on a 24-hour on-site model, using 12-hour shifts. Having intensivists on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a week enhances the wellness and safety of patients in our intensive care units by providing them with preventive measures that can help avoid complications.
ICU patients are often in extremely critical condition. Some patients are in comas, some need ventilators to help them breathe, and some take multiple medicines and are hooked up to invasive lines and tubes. Members of our intensivist team (physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists), and family members all work closely together and pay close attention to certain aspects of a patient’s status that could evolve into adverse complications, such as infection and pneumonia.
Providing intensive, coordinated care to ICU patients is one of the most important goals of KMA’s intensivist program. Our dedication and commitment to our ICU patients is shown by providing a higher level of care.
